Supplier Love - Laura E Patrick Calligraphy

Today we chat to Laura Elizabeth Patrick, the creative genius behind some of Insta's most gorgeous lettering. Incidentally, Laura also takes gorgeous photographs too...

A little bit about Laura...

My love of handwriting and calligraphy-style writing started because of good old Winnie the Pooh. For my first birthday, despite an inability to read, my aunt Elizabeth (hence my middle name) gave my mum a copy of the book by A.A Milne with a note at the front which said, "well at least she can look at the pictures!" - followed by my name and birthday. This was penned in her own unique and flowing handwriting, and as the years went on I've cherished this book, and many more hand notes I received from her. With a trusty Osmiroid calligraphy kit I began to experiment and remember my hast attempts at traditional calligraphy.

Fast forward a few years, and after graduating with a degree in Fashion Business and some unrelated career moves, I picked up the pen (and ink) again, and became hooked on Calligraphy and Typography, but this time taking a more modern approach using the pointed pen.

I take a fine art approach to wedding stationery and like to create elegant designs blending my own organic calligraphy with classic simple type design with quirky vintage touches and some illustration.

I get inspiration from everywhere but I love old vintage illustrations, celestrial musings and of course gorgeous organic wildflower arrangements.

Least favourite wedding trend?

I must admit I'm not a huge fan of neon, but to be honest I'm not a big fan of themes in general. Its nice to take influence from different elements, whether thats colours you want to include or an overall mood you want to create, but the things you pick for your wedding should really be about you

A lot of things influence my work so its hard to pick one thing:

Art, music, architecture , old books and handwriting. I've recently developed a bit of a love for poetry too and like to include unique and unusual words in my work where possible.

Primary sources are the best - taking walks round art galleries - let me to work on some new colour palettes in my work and use some paintings as envelope liners. I've also become a been looking a lot at classic design from old books in particular the use of type.

Services I offer include complete wedding invite design, envelope addressing, table plans, escort cards, menus and seating plans for weddings and events. I also offer a bespoke branding and logo service and am working on a range of prints. Prices start at Ā£2.50 per envelope and Iā€™m happy to provide a quote for custom design.
